Year, Hour, Month
The Chinese lunar calendar has been in use for over 4,600 years. A full lunar cycle takes 60 years. We are currently in the early years of the 78th cycle. The lunar month commences with the New Moon every 29 1/2 days. An extra month is added every two and a half years to adjust the calendar.
Everyone has three Animal Signs based on their time of birth within the Lunar Calendar. In order of importance, the three Signs are:
Chinese lunar astrology divides the day into twelve two hour periods. The lunar day begins at 11:00 pm with the first period being the hours of the Rat. The qualities of the animal sign of the time of birth figure prominently in the outward behavior of the individual. A person born in the Year of the Dog in the Hours of the Dog (7pm - 9pm) or a Horse born in the Hours of the Horse (11am - 1pm) is “pure”. Generally, with pure signs, what you see is what you get.

YEAR OF BIRTH : TIGER + (YANG)
Related To: Aquarius The Tiger is the third sign of the Chinese horoscope. The Tiger is Yang and is fixed to the Wood element. The characteristics of the Tiger correspond to the occidental sign of Aquarius. Yang is positive, masculine, and associated with the Day. Objective Yang signs depend more on others than themselves. You tend to be outgoing and more physical than spiritual. As all opposites attract in nature, Yang attracts Yin. The Wood element association bestows a moralistic and ethical outlook to life. Wood people are self-confident and have better than average executive and persuasive abilities. Tiger people are considered to be the luckiest of all signs. They are also associated with the most volatile of personalities and are famous for their bad tempers and impatience. You are ruled by emotion and will generally follow your heart rather than the your head. Tigers will always speak their minds - diplomacy is not your greatest asset. The old saying "fools rush in where angels fear to tread" could have been written with the Tiger in mind. In contrast, many Tigers find themselves racked with indecision at times. You are optimistic, humanitarian, romantic and sentimental. The friends and emotional partners of Tigers are rarely bored in their company. The vivacity and audacity of the Tiger means that they will often be the center of attention; a position they enjoy. A dislike of being ignored and a sensitive ego can render you petty and vengeful at times. You remember insults forever. The acquisition of wealth is not of prime importance to those of the third sign. You are also generally unconcerned with personal security and choose quite an unconventional lifestyle. Those who would attempt to force change or convention on a Tiger often have to fight for their lives and will come out of the situation as the loser. Tigers are suspicious by nature and find difficulty in trusting others and taking advice. However, you are well able to cultivate lasting relationships when necessary. The most successful Tigers have an inner circle of trusted advisers. Tiger parents do not generally spoil their children and control them well. The Tiger child is extremely lively, loud and curious. Parents should be careful to avoid domination by the child. Tigers will have the most fulfilling relationships with those born in the years of the Boar and the Dog. Relationships with Snakes and especially Monkey can be difficult.
HOURS OF BIRTH : DRAGON + (YANG)
Related To: Aries The Dragon is the fifth sign of the Chinese horoscope. The Dragon is Yang and is fixed to the Wood element. The characteristics of the Dragon correspond to the occidental sign of Aires. Yang is positive, masculine, and associated with the Day. Objective Yang signs depend more on others than themselves. You tend to be outgoing and more physical than spiritual. As all opposites attract in nature, Yang attracts Yin. The Wood association bestows a moralistic and ethical outlook to life. Wood people are self-confident and have better than average executive and persuasive abilities. Those born in the year of the Dragon are regarded as the most powerful and energetic of people. Mostly driven by the emotions, Dragon people don't think that they are right, they know they are. You live up to your ideals and demand similar high standards from others. Diplomacy and tactfulness are not part of your nature. You tend to achieve your goals through direct attack. A Dragon prefers to batter down the door than knock on it. You will be victorious in most of your battles. Only the brave, the foolish, or other Dragons, will choose to take you on. Being combatative by nature, and having little regard for the feelings and opinions of others, you are not over-endowed with sentimentality or romantic thoughts. You expect people to love and admire you. Dragons are very forgiving and can always be relied upon in a crisis. The downfall of many Dragons is over-confidence and a lack of appreciation of the situation. Dragons are easy victims of those who sob and cry when hurt. A Dragon without a cause is not pleasant company, and they may behave in a sullen and resentful way. The parents of Dragon children will do well to let the children stress themselves physically and intellectually. Dragons need to be gently guided in the correct direction, never pushed. Dragons just can't be pushed. Generally successful in life, you have innate self-esteem and are practical and functional - especially Dragon women. You may find the most rewarding and exciting emotional partnerships with those born in the year of the Monkey. Crafty Rats can also be a lot of fun. Snakes make excellent business partners. Relationships with the Ox and the Dog can be difficult.
MONTH OF BIRTH : SHEEP
Related To: Cancer The Sheep is the eighth sign of the Chinese horoscope. Also referred to as the Goat, the Sheep is Yang and is fixed to the Fire element. The characteristics of the Sheep correspond with the occidental sign of Cancer. Yang is positive, masculine, and associated with the Day. Objective Yang signs depend more on others than themselves. You tend to be outgoing and more physical than spiritual. As all opposites attract in nature, Yang attracts Yin. The Fire element association bestows a love of adventure and a desire for change, aggression and the domination of others. Talking more than listening. To the Chinese, the number 8 is associated with prosperity. As the 8th sign, Sheep people are seen to enjoy more luck than most. The Sheep needs security more than others, with life goals focused on the creation and maintenance of a harmonious environment. You are peace-loving and go out of your way to avoid confrontation. Sheep are generally dependent on others, as they tend to place themselves in the background. Shyness is common. Strong inner resources, determination and a sense of duty make Sheep people tireless workers, yet they do not handle pressure well. Your most likely synergy will be with a partner (in business or in love) who will take the lead role. A lack of outward aggression does not mean that you are weak. To the contrary, the Sheep has many beguiling ways of getting what he or she wants. Sheep people are masters of gentle persuasion. Finding difficulty in keeping to schedules, you are rarely on time for anything. You do not respond well to highly disciplined environments, and do not take criticism well. As self-expression is not a famous characteristic of Sheep, there are many times when you will cause others to lose patience. This is especially true in the case of the Rat and Ox, whose will have little sympathy for your shy ways. Sheep women are renowned for their taste and dress-sense. They appear to be the most undemanding of females, but will almost always be able to secure the relationships they desire. In matters of love, all Sheep are hopeless romantics. Once attached, loyalty to family and loved ones is put above all else. A Sheep will never cut the family ties. Sheep make excellent parents. The Sheep child is sensitive and needs to be constantly shown how much they are loved. Many will not leave the parental home unless gently pushed.
WOOD ELEMENT
Ruled By: Jupiter Wood people are the most fair and generous of all. It is easy for them to gain the trust and confidence of others because they consistently demonstrate high moral and ethical qualities. Many are glad to have dependable Wood people as friends as they can invariably be relied upon regardless of the situation. The challenge for Wood people is to moderate their plans and ensure that what is started is finished.
